In the northwest of Iran, within Ardabil Province, stands the great Mount Sabalan (Savalan). An outstanding, yet inactive, stratovolcano, it is the third highest mountain in Iran. To Iranians, specially Zoroastrians and Azeri people, this is a symbolic icon. There is a beautiful ski-resort for ski enthusiasts and a Crater Lake for adventurers.
We start in Tehran. We take the evening bus and journey to the northwest. Via the western edge of Alborz Mountain Chain, we reach grand woodlands. This is the starting point of the Talish (Talysh) Mountains. Then we enter Ardabil (Ardebil) city and check-in.
After breakfast, we start the second day with a visit to the Ancient site of Shahar Yeri. This is an archaeological site not far from the city. This historical place resembles a temple. Some of the ruins here are dating back to over 7000 years ago. Then we continue driving to reach Qotur-Sui. The altitude here is 3700 m. On the northern flank of Sabaland Mountain, is the crossing path of Shahsavan Nomads. Often they call themselves pastoralists of Soviet frontier. Here you continue to visit and experience the lifestyle of Nomad. Don’t worry we handle your luggage.
We start ascending early in the morning. With a little push, we reach an altitude of 4811 m. This is the beautiful peak of Sabalan. Here there’s a unique, bowl-shape Crater Lake. It looks like a set of blue mirrors in the form of glass in the hand of a master. Then we descend to base camp to have lunch. After lunch, we drive back to Qotur-Sui. To enjoy more, we head to Sarein (Sareyn). What makes Sarein famous is the hot springs available in the county.
The climate is lovely, and in such pristine nature, you need to relax in mineral hot springs. Some refer to it as magic well, some refer to it as hydrotherapy, you can name it your SPA and scenic spot. Before sunset, we take the bus and journey back to Tehran.
