What is the Iranian religion?
As well as being one of the most powerful countries in the Middle East, Iran is the global epicenter of Shia Islam. Between 90% and 95% of Iran’s approximate 80 million population are Shia, making it the largest populace of Shia Muslims in the world!
About 5-10% make up the Sunni and Sufi branches of Islam.
The remaining 1% are Christian, Zoroastrian, Baha’i, and Jewish. Iran also has close relations with countries in the Middle East and North Africa, which also have large Shia populations, especially in Lebanon and Iraq.
How many Jews live in Iran?
Judaism does have a history in Iran. Following the revolution, there are now just below 9,000 Jews in Iran.
How many Christians live in Iran? Christians are currently the largest minority religion in Iran, with around 250,000 to 370,000 living in the country (and most have an Armenian heritage).
Is Zoroastrianism allowed in Iran?
These religions are Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and Judaism. According to the law, the followers of these religions enjoy similar citizenship rights with Muslim citizens, and the representatives of these minorities in the Islamic Consultative Assembly can swear by their faith.
In the constitution and the general rules, access to some high-level jobs for non-Muslims is prohibited!
